Should your loved one not have left clear instructions, one of the main decisions you need to make is whether you would like them to have a burial or cremation service.

The choice between burial and cremation can be a personal one and may be influenced by many factors, including family tradition, religious or non-religious views or the wishes of the person who has die.

A burial is a ceremony held after the main funeral service, where mourners attend the graveside and pay their respects as the coffin is lowered into the grave. Burials can take many forms religious or non-religious, woodland burial, direct burials or burials at sea.

Cremation

Cremation is the process by which a person who has died is turned into ashes. Once the cremation has taken place, the ashes are then returned to loved ones to scatter or to keep. Cremations can be religious or non-religious. You also have the option to hold a service in a separate place, like a church, followed by a ceremony at the crematorium.

Religious funerals have unique and meaningful traditions, from the funeral preparations to the service itself. We support families from all religions, faiths and backgrounds in organising a fitting funeral that reflects your loved one’s beliefs and final wishes.

There are a number of alternative ways in which will help you give your loved one a fitting farewell if you wish to say goodbye in a non-religious or more unique way.

If your loved one didn’t have any religious beliefs, then a humanist funeral may be right for them. These non-religious services and can be a unique way to say goodbye to a loved one. The service can include readings from poetry, prose, an address by the minister or simply moments of quiet interspersed by favourite songs.

Green & Woodland Funerals

A woodland burial, sometimes also referred to as a green funeral or natural burial, can be an environmentally-friendly alternative to a traditional burial or cremation. In some cases, families may be draw to woodland funerals as an alternative to traditional burials, cemeteries and graveyards due to them offering a more peaceful, tranquil setting for reflection and remembrance.

Usually set within acres of woodland and surrounded by countryside, most woodland burial sites offer either a burial plot or burial or scattering of ashes.

Direct Cremations & Burials

A direct cremation is when we bring your loved one into our care and provide a simple, unattended cremation or burial, with no service, mourners or ceremony. It offers a low-cost funeral that allows you to bid a respectful farewell in a simple and fuss-free way. Many families organise a separate gathering or celebration of life when choosing this route.
